What is Build-Up?

The build-up shape is when the ball is played from the defense. The first number includes players before the opposition's first pressing line (ie. attackers), and the second number includes players behind this pressing line, but before the opp. midfield line.

This highly depends on the team playstyle and player's playstyle of all players concerned.

What is Attacking Shape?

The attacking shape is the formation of the team once the final third is reached.

What is Defensive Shape?

The defensive shape of the team is how is organised the team in defense, after possible pressing. Depending on their positions, players will join one of the three defensive lines:

  • 1st Line (Defenders): LWF/RWF, SS and CF
  • 2nd Line (Midfielders): LMF/RMF, DMF, CMF and AMF
  • 3rd Line (Attackers): LB/RB and CB
